What I Do for a Living

I divide munchies for a living. No kidding. My partner-in-crime, she volunteered to get the job done but wait – how difficulty can that be right? I grabbed four shopping bags of candies and mini-chocolate bars in excess of S$100 home and started dividing them into four piles of munchies.

I riped the first bag of munchies up with such an enthusiasm and energy and in awe, I saw all the candies tossed into the air flying in different directions. Bad start. Not only that, I saw bits and pieces of chocolates and what not landed onto my floor together with an ant. Oh My God! My floor! Alright, I quickly pulled out my newspapers and continue the division. (Note: I don’t eat munchies in real life, my wife Cynthia does.)

Being the obsessive compulsive me, I made sure each pile has the exact number of munchies plus or minus one. Each pile is for 70 people’s one day consumption next week. After packing them up into four carrier bags, I frowned. Between now and next week, how am I to keep them safe from my munchies monster aka (a) my wife and my house pets aka (b) the ants?!

I mean, look at what does one bag of munchies mean? Cynthia will go mad seeing that and could finish them in a weekend! Well, since she is still in Bandung. Let me worry about that later.

But the ants! They are like everywhere! My toothbrush, my LCD monitor, my CDs, my floor …

So I pulled out the oven tray, filled it up with water, rested a plate on top on the steamer stand, and have my four days worth of munchies so unreachable by the ants. I would seriously be amazed if my house pets aka the ants can find a way in.

**** AFTER 10 minutes of posting the article ****

Alright, my friends told me that it is kind of hard to see from the picture how much munchies are there in one pile because it was all piled up. So I spread them out and took another picture. My friend asked where are Hershey’s Cookies & Cream … and I went … eh. She asked for Kit Kat’s funky flavours … and again, I went … eh. She asked how many munchies in one pile. Oh well, I did a count …

As shown in the picture above, there is an estimation of 240 munchies for 70 adults in one day.

Cough Pills

I met my favourite doctor this morning again. How are you, he asked me. Well I am HERE! was my reply. After some brief examination, I looked at him in puzzlement and his wise reply was – the virus has spread (oh no?!) and it is still lingering. He delivered the news with such a happy face that I really couldn’t read his mind.

I am going to give you something to clear the phlegm, he said. And then he asked, with a frown, if I want some lozenges. Of course I need! Give me more! Give me many! You sure, he inquired. Duh?!

Finally, he told me that he would give me some cough pills. No, no, no! Give me cough mixture! The one that knocks me off to bed! Not sure he felt taken aback by my challenging of his authority, he reinterated that the cough pills are good for me. They won’t knock me off to bed.

When I collected my pills and my well deserved medical certificate, I stared at the cough pills label in disbelieve. It said: May Caused Drowsiness.

Duh!

******* TWELVE HOURS LATER *******

Alright, these cough pills are potent. They knocked the living crap out of me and sent me straight to bed. Side effects including headaches and wanting to puke. I think I would live with the cough itself and have more lozenges.

Pills ... duh!

I am still not well … you see, the “eyes” are for my throat and the “mouth” is for my nose. I still got upset by Friday’s headline news (see blog of previous day) and today, I have written a song called “Not the Lesser of Two Evils”.

Now, take a look at my lozenges … the label said: suck 1 lozenges 4 times a day and do not exceed 12 within 24 hours. The problem is, I NEED more than 1 lozenges every 4 hours. Aarrgh!

Good Friday and I am Sick

Feeling sick 2 days ago but yesterday I needed to go to work because one of the clients called for emergency meeting in the morning. This morning, I got up early to send Cynthia to the airport and immediately I went to see my doctor. Okay, nothing serious – a flu – but what a timing! I don’t even benefit from it (read: medical certificate for one day off)!

One week completely off from online gaming so far! Yay! I actually have so much free time to do so many things.

Once Again I Washed My Car

Trade in my 5 years old car with a new one. Today, I have resumed the weekend ritual of car washing. For three dollar, I could have washed my car at the petrol station nearby. No, I dislike the poor quality of work so I have decided to DIY. Today is my first wash of many and I was still filled with excitment. In time to come, I bet I would be like years ago, consoling myself that I only have the chance of washing my car 520 times (52 weeks in a year and in Singapore, I can only keep a car for 10 years).

A Quiet Weekend

Cynthia has gone to Bangkok for her business trip together with her mother. It is amazing to realise that from Friday 5.30pm till now (Monday 2am), I have not spoken a single word. Sure the CD player and tuner was on all these while but this weekend was indeed a quiet one.

Till I grabbed my guitar and sang …

How We Have Changed

Came back from work, as I walked towards the lift of my Condo, I saw a school boy called for the lift while his father headed towards the mailbox. The lift arrived, he went in and pressed 4th and 13th floor. I waited inside the lift while his dad was taking his time emptying the mailbox. When his dad went into the lift, the dad asked why he pressed the 4th floor. Apparently, the school kid was waiting for yet another school kid and the kid’s maid just outside the lobby. As I waited, another lady went into the lift and pressed 5th floor. All of us waited till another school kid from 4th floor got into the lift.

Kids are just amazing.

One of the Most Fun Wedding Dinner

My friend ML has two wedding dinner – one for his families and another one for his friend. I am his friend so I was invited for the 2nd night (by the way my friend, where was my invitation card?!). That was my first experience with a Western setting – pool side cocktail, live jazz band, and buffet dinner. I love the food and I love the companionship. The entire table was my ex-colleague. It was really fun.

The Way You Look Tonight

My good buddy ML needed some practice on the song “The Way You Look Tonight” by Michael Buble so that he can sing to his wife during his wedding night. So I invited to my place, while my wife is in Japan, and set up my home studio just to jam with him. Man, he can sing. It took me some time to get all the chords right (have to detone my guitar) but it was overall an exciting experience. We have recorded three takes and I think he can make it nicely.

60 Lottery Tickets Into the Bin

For the once a year Chinese New Year 10 Million Dollar draw, JT and I have decided to do it in a bigger way then last year (just bought one System 7 last year). This time round, we tried quantity and not buying an extra number. So JT suggested buying 20 tickets from three different outlets.

Last night, I spent half an hour matching the results with my 60 tickets. The most I have got is 3 numbers out of 6 winning numbers. The minimum to win is 3 numbers plus one extra one. Oh well, I told JT today that perhaps next year, I will just buy 1 ticket of 6 numbers. If you are destined to win, it doesn’t matter how many you buy.
